May 2024 HOWL

Announcements:

May 3rd, 2024 Data Breach Incident

As you may be aware from emails from an anonymous party, SEA-PAH member private personal information (PII) was used by an individual that had no authorization to use the data, resulting in several emails sent to all current members. Please know that we take this unauthorized action seriously and are working diligently with our vendors, federal and state law enforcement, and cybersecurity experts to assess the scope of the data accessed, the individuals involved, and will pursue this matter to the fullest extent available to the organization allowed.

We are disappointed that an individual took this approach to start a discourse in our organization and hope that the individual will come forward to take responsibility for their actions.  In the meantime, the board has taken action to limit access to your PII to the 6 current board members and created a data privacy policy to protect our member data going forward located here: https://seapah.tidyhq.com/public/pages/data-protection-policy   Once the scope of data access is understood, you may receive an official notification as required by the Washington State Attorney General’s Office.

To address the specific allegations in the emails that were sent, in reviewing the recording of a special executive session, we learned that a board member distributed the amount of $20 to a volunteer, placing the organization in a troubling situation. During this meeting the board member was removed from their position with this action being one of the reasons given.  At the time of our prior notices, we did not have confirmation of this action and subsequently we followed up and confirmed this happened. We have recaptured the funds distributed this way and made extensive notes and policy documents on cash handling in the future.  We were in the process of doing an investigation with the festival, legal, and tax professionals to understand the nuances of our non-profit status and how we could work within the framework that we are organized with.  Upon discussion with the event organizers and how other organizations handled their situations we decided to not pursue additional investigation and not compensate members for their volunteer time.  Future volunteer opportunities will have an agreement to sign that clarifies compensation status.

We deeply apologize for the unauthorized access and we will work with our community to ensure that your private data is protected.  We also hear your concerns with your data in the hands of law enforcement, and we will do our best to ensure that any data request is handled with respect for our desire for privacy and protection of our members’ information.

Epilogue: The SEA-PAH board knows that Pup IRS has sent a follow up email on Tuesday, May 7th. Instead of responding to them at every turn, we would rather continue our transparency and direct communication with our members and community partners. Our treasurer, Nova, will be at the mosh this weekend with our accounting software to open the financial records to any SEA-PAH member upon request. Board members will be available for questions at the social and mosh, and we are always available via email & Telegram.

Dress code for venues

As per recent political events in Washington, venues are able to change their dress code to allow for more freedom. The following dress code is pertinent for our event venues:

The Cuff: Thong, Jockstraps and shirtless are all great! Genitals need to be covered.

CC’s: Patrons are free to express themselves with what they wear, or choose not to wear.

Wildrose: Tops and Bottoms please.

This does not give anybody permission to perform inappropriate behavior at each venue. You can be asked to leave by the venue for violating their code of conduct. Please report any violations to venue staff first.
